For+the period of time:
• I have studied English for nine years.
• I have been studying English for nine years.
I have been working in this industry forten months.
Since + the start of the period/time
• 1 have studied English since 2011.
• 1 have been studying English since 2011.
• I have worked in this industry since January.
• I have been working in this industry since January.
AGO means "before now", indicates a past time
Lisa and Ben got married three years ago.
• We arrived in the Philippines two months ago.
• She lived in Japan two decades ago.
• 1 made the report two days ago.
